Mission
The Sons of Confederate Veterans is a historic preservation and community service organization, that is made up of Men who are descendants of members of the armed forces of the Confederate States of America.
The SCV is the direct heir of the United Confederate Veterans, and is the oldest hereditary organization for Men who are descendants of Confederate soldiers and sailors. Organized at Richmond, Virginia in 1896, the SCV continues to serve as a historic, patriotic, and non-political organization dedicated to ensuring that a true history of the 1861-1865 period is preserved.
Regular membership is open to anyone who has a Confederate soldier or sailor as an ancestor. The Fire Eaters have an Associate Member program, so that ya'll Yankees can still participate.
Services Offered
The Edmund Ruffin Fire Eaters, SCV Camp 3000, of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, meets at 6:00 pm on the first Wednesday of each month, at the Bass Pro Shop in Hanover. Meetings typically feature a presentation on Confederate era history, or a presentation by a local community leader. The Fire Eaters sponsor the annual battle re-enactment and fair, DIXIE DAYS (DIXIEDAYS.com), usually held in Hanover at Pole Green Park, each spring.
While some SCV members are battle re-enactors, many more of our members participate in historical marker placement and preservation, as well as heritage defense efforts that help ensure a truthful account of Confederate era history is told.

Volunteer Opportunities
The SCV provides volunteer opportunities for Boy Scouts and other civic minded groups to participate in historic marker preservation, and many other community service projects related to Virginia's contribution to the Confederate era.
